My Confrontation With An American Traitor
Immigration piece by
Dave Gibson
Recently, the Virginia Beach Democrats website (VBDems.com) held an online discussion with an open-borders lobbyist and legislative strategist named Claire Guthrie Gastanaga. She works on behalf of the race-based, pro-illegal immigration Virginia Coalition of Latino Organizations. I took the opportunity to confront this woman who makes a living by betraying her own nation, and her response to my direct questioning was very telling.
Our exchange follows:
I wrote:
“Claire,
Why have you decided to betray your nation and work on behalf of those who invade our country, kill our police officers, hunt our children, drive intoxicated and without licenses on our roads? Why have you decided to work on behalf of those who have no respect for our laws (that goes for both invaders as well as the politicians and business owners who encourage their illegal entry)?
Before you give me some high-minded pat answer, please answer as if you were talking to the families of the thousands of victims of drunk driving, armed robbery, cop killings, and rapes at the hands of illegal aliens every year.”
She responded:
“Dave Gibson:
There is no response that I can give to your “question” that would satisfy you. Suffice it to say that I am working for sensible immigration laws and policies that would bring respect for the rule of law back to our system, heighten our security by ensuring that we know who is in our country, and protect all workers.
Some of my favorite quotes seem apt here:
If we desire respect for the law, we must first make the law respectable.
-Louis D. Brandeis
If...the machine of government...is of such a nature that it requires you to be the agent of injustice to another, then, I say, break the law.
-Henry David Thoreau
We cannot, by total reliance on law, escape the duty to judge right and wrong...There are good laws and there are occasionally bad laws, and it conforms to the highest traditions of a free society to offer resistance to bad laws, and to disobey them.
-Alexander Bickel
If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality.
-Bishop Desmond Tutu”
I responded:
“Claire,
I am disappointed but not surprised that rather than explain how you justify your position which is in direct conflict with the safety and sovereignty of all Americans, you list a bunch of meaningless quotes. I could list just as many from influential Americans in opposition to your point of view...So what?
You did say: “ I am working for sensible immigration laws and policies that would bring respect for the rule of law back to our system”...However, the immediate and most sensible way to bring respect for the “rule of law back to our system” is to actually begin vigorously defending our border. Of course, that is not what you and yours really want. I simply find it disgusting that you are so willing and unapologetic to aid a group of people who bring 90 percent of the illegal drugs into this country, take jobs away from Americans, kill our police officers, make our highways much more dangerous, and account for 30 percent of this country’s prison population. I cannot imagine that when you were young you dreamed of growing up and making a living be betraying your country one day.
Your pitiful response to my question told me that deep down you agree with my assessment.”
Though Ms. Gastanaga continued to take many softball questions from others during the Democratic website’s discussion, she refused to address me again.
Last year, when the Virginia General Assembly was discussing a proposed measure which would ban the admission of illegal aliens to state colleges, Ms. Gastanaga became livid. She said: “We would become the only state in the U.S. to prohibit the admission of undocumented students to colleges or to technical schools or for completion of GED.” She went on to insult Americans who want our laws respected by saying: “What they’re doing is taking advantage of people’s ignorance rather than educating people. They’re playing to a fear-driven mythology.”
In addition to lobbying politicians on behalf of Latin American invaders (to whom she always refers to as “undocumented” or simply as “immigrants") she also writes for Spanish language magazines. Two of her articles which appeared in The Latino Messenger (El Mensjero) and Que Pasa Washington were entitled “Ten Tips on How to Become and Effective Advocate for Latinos in Richmond,” and “2004 General Assembly: Immigrants Face Continued Challenges.” Both articles argued for the continued invasion of this country and damned any politician who dared suggest that our laws should be followed. Ms. Gastanaga has even gone so far as to make a connection between FAIR (Federation for American Immigration Reform) and the American Nazi Party!
It still amazes me how someone can be persuaded with to fight for a point of view which will ultimately destroy their own home. Does Ms. Gastanaga believe that her life and the life of her family will somehow be untouched by this country becoming over-run with drug dealers, violent criminals, Latin American gangs, disease, and grinding poverty? Maybe she plans to move when we join the Third World.
